I've been speaking on stages for more than a decade now. You knew that already. I don't mention that to brag but to point your mind to some wisdom that Jim Rohn blabbered many years ago:

He said: "Really? Like what?"
I said: "There's no empathy in your speech. You talk big big but there's no connection. You're trying so hard to make people like you & respect you- it's fine. But if you really want to EARN their respect, you must understand THEM on a deeper level, and communicate your understanding of them during your speech. Talk about their pain, their aspiration, their goals, their limitations, their daily life, their chaos in life---talk about THEM. That's when they connect."
He was silent.
Then he said:

Look, the point is that: Audience wants to feel understood. Persuasion is better than force. And there's no persuasion without connection.
